Training

Dr Andrew Pickering MBChB, LLM, FRANZCOG 

Dr Andrew Pickering trained initially in the UK and then commenced postgraduate training at Leicester and Leeds before relocating to Sydney. He completed further training at Royal North Shore Hospital culminating in being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). Andy actively involves himself in the teaching of medical students and doctors in training and is a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney and a senior adjunct lecturer at Notre Dame University.

Practice

Andy uses his experience in both the NHS and public health care here in Australia to support women in their birth choices and is happy supporting both high and low-risk woman through their journey into motherhood. Andy works hard to achieve a normal birth and his practice has a low caesarean section rate and he is enthusiastic in his support of vaginal birth in higher risk settings, such as vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) and vaginal twin delivery.

He works with Doula’s and supports woman choosing calmbirth or hypnobirthing techniques to achieve the labour and birth you want and has a passion for waterbirths. Andy recognises the importance of caring for women experiencing complications of early pregnancy and is happy to arrange urgent consults in this area. He supports all options available for management of early pregnancy complications, including surgical, medical and conservative management.

Andy is happy to consult on the full range of Gynaecological presentations and has an interest in minimally invasive Gynaecology, Gynaecological Laparoscopy and Endometriosis. He has an expertise in managing menstrual disorders and contraception and is an accredited colposcopist, so can see you following an abnormal cervical screening test. During his training he worked in the Urogynaecology and Menopause clinics at Royal Northshore Hospital so is able to advise on menopausal symptoms and pelvic organ prolapse.

Family Life

Andy is married with two teenage daughters and they live on the Northern Beaches and plays an active part in the community. He is keen runner and is actively involved with Curl Curl parkrun and the local scout community with his daughters.
